Hi there!
I'm back in Cologne after a week with my university in Mallorca. The reason for this pleasure was an educational hiking trip to the mountainous area of the Island - Serra de Tramuntana with the start and finish place being Palma de Mallorca. In the following days I will share some of my experiences, so stay tuned.

The first part of this series of post is dedicated to the capital of the region: Palma, the port-city build by the Phoenicians. The island, along with the city belong during the ages to many empires, like the Roman, byzantine, Maure and Spanish. Since 1950 it has evolved as a touristic destination.
Specific to this place are the olive and almond cultures, but also red wines. For the jewelry-lover it's the perfect place to buy some Mallorca pearls. An aspect that is not that fortunate is the potable water scarcity. All the drinking water is brought from the continent and as you can imagine the prices are pretty high.
The old city thrills you through the combination of architectural styles but also through lights. The palm beach on the other hand is the perfect place for relaxation. Sadly we didn't have so much time available, but in the future I'll return here for sure.
Most of the tourists come from Germany so at any restaurant or bar you can speak German, English or Spanish (the local dialect).
And to give an answer to the question from the title: In Palma is a lot of sun and a good atmosphere. :D
In the next post we will hike on the GR221 path through the mountains of the island. Until then I wish you sunny days!
