Today I will preset you a post about the most loved mascot animal of a sport club in the world: Hennes the billy goat of FC Cologne.
The story started on the 13th of February 1950, exactly two years since the founding of the club. The circus director Carola Williams, who was in one of the Carnival's sessions at that time, proposed to bring in a pet to act as a club mascot and also to bring luck to the players. The board of the club found the idea brilliant and named the goat Hennes after the coach Weisweiler. The pet actually brought luck to the club, they won the Championship of West-Germany in 1954,1960,1961,1962,1963 and the Pocal of 1962 and 1964. In 1966, after 16 years of duty, Hennes died of old age.
In the meantime they reached the 8th generation of goats. They must be born in Cologne and are always present to the home games of FC. Sometimes he even speaks at the microphone, and the whole stadium listens quietly.
The fans of the rival team Mönchengladbach tried several time to kill the poor animal and ever since it has a personal body guard.
I've met him in person at his residence in Cologne, more exactly, at the Zoo. The last two generation became stars after appearing in some TV shows and commercials. In the city on the Rhine there is an expression involving the goat. To be in the mood for something is translated: "Bock auf etwas haben" (to have a goat for something).
So if at the next football match a goat will be making the speech, then you know that you arrived in Cologne.
