On this morning took place the office start of the new university study year at the German Sports University Cologne and as each time it took place in the Rhein Energie Stadium. About 200 students with cood feet came and took their places, 2 rows being saved for the internationals. After the rector's speech, a speech focused on the scientific part of the university, followed a few minutes hosted by the representatives of the FC Köln football team. The people were beginning to get bored and the international were exasperated because of the high-paced speeches in the german language. But a nice surprise followed.
 | At the initiative of the Bio-mechanics and Orthopedics Institute a special guest was invited: Frank de Winne, the man from the picture. He is an belgian astronaut, the first from Europe to lead an international space mission on the international space station. |
With the help of a short film and talking perfect english, he introduced us to the life in space and the role of the sport in maintaining the bone and muscle mass in the normal limits. Actually that' s the connection between the university and the European Spacial Agency, the scientist researching the effects of outer space on the human anatomy. At present, Frank de Winne is the chief of the European Astronaut Center, which resides in Cologne.
At the end of the presentations all the participants received soft drinks, although it was quite cold outside, free tickets to sport events and a goodies bag for the start of the semester.
